These are items with particular characteristics which you can bring with you.

For snow and water or a snowboard or a monoski.

It may be made up of diverse materials:

Snow: one pair of skis or a monoski, one pair of poles, one pair of boots and a helmet. It may be carried in two bags to a maximum weight of 23 kg.

Water: one pair of skis or a monoski, one pair of poles, one pair of boots and a helmet. It may be carried in two bags to a maximum weight of 23 kg.

Conditions of acceptance on the flight

All ski equipment should be properly positioned and fastened so it does not bother or injure other people during boarding, carriage and disembarkation.

Allowance

For long-haul flights (America, Asia and South Africa), it is considered an item that can be carried within the passenger's allowance. If you add other items, exceeding the permitted number of free items, it will be considered excess baggage.

For short-haul and medium-haul flights, a single fee of €45* appliesin each direction, regardless of the luggage allowance.

The maximum weight allowed shall be 23 kg with an overweight fee for weights of up to 32 kg. The fee must be paid at the airport.


In accordance with Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority ANAC regulation, for (return) flights originating in Brazil it will always be considered excess baggage. A charge of USD 81 applies for the first piece of ski equipment. A charge of USD 120 applies to the second piece of ski equipment.

Golf clubs should be well-fastened inside their bag so they do not bother or injure other passengers during boarding, carriage and disembarkation.

The maximum weight allowed shall be 23 kg with an overweight fee for weights of up to 32 kg. The fee must be paid at the airport.


In accordance with Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority ANAC regulation, for (return) flights originating in Brazil if golf equipment forms part of the passenger’s allowance, it will not be subject to a surcharge. If the passenger takes 2 pieces of baggage plus 1 piece of golf equipment, a surcharge of USD 60 will be charged. If the passenger takes 2 pieces of baggage plus 2 pieces of golf equipment, a charge of USD 60 will be charged for the first piece of golf equipment and USD 120 for the second.

Bicycles

Please fold down the handlebars, remove the pedals, take the air out of the wheels and pack it in one of the special boxes we will provide you with.

Carriage requirements

Single-seat and no motor.

It must be checked-in folded, with the handlebars against the sides, the pedals removed, the wheels with the air taken out and correctly packed.

Iberia has a packing container measuring 131+72+21 cm in many airports. The price of this container is €20 per unit. This container will be issued at the customer's request or at the requirement of the agents in cases of irregularities (except, e.g., in Berlin and Dusseldorf airports). If the bicycle being checked in is bigger than the container provided by IBERIA, the passenger will be responsible for finding another one that is the right size.

Iberia reserves the right to reject bulky sporting equipment and to pass it to Iberia Cargo with conditions and tariffs that are different from those indicated above.

Skates, skateboard or scooter

You can carry them as long as they are not mechanical.

In terms of carriage, they are defined as:

One bag with one pair of skates or one skateboard or a scooter with one set of protectors (elbow pads, knee pads, etc.) and a helmet.

Recreational devices such as hover boards, airwheels and mini-segways are not accepted in either checked or carry-on baggage.

Tennis/squash/badminton equipment: one set of rackets and balls carried in one bag.

Hockey equipment: one hockey bag, hockey sticks, one pair of ice skates, one set of protectors (elbow pads, knee pads, etc.), one helmet.

Javelin throwing equipment: one set of javelins carried in one container.

Archery equipment: one set of bow and arrows carried in one container.

Surf, windsurf, kite board and bodyboard equipment

A board and/or chute with some exceptions regarding standard measurements.

In terms of carriage, they are defined as:

Surf/Kite board/Wave board: one kite and/or one board which does not exceed 3.5 m in length.

Bodyboard/Boogie board: one board with a maximum size of 100 x 50 x 20 cm.

Windsurf: consists of a board, boom, centreboard, mast and sail all wrapped together.

Only one piece of equipment per passenger will be accepted.

Passenger arrives at airport

Given the nature of this baggage, the passenger must allow enough time to check in, transfer and load the gear onto the aircraft.

Admission to the flight

It shall be carried subject to availability of space on the flight. All the elements must be properly positioned and tagged, secured in such a way that prevents breakage or so they do not cause harm or damage during boarding, carriage and disembarkation.

Loading the gear

Considering its characteristics, which normally impede carriage on the baggage belts, it is up to the Company’s personnel to decide whether to use a system that facilitates the carriage of this equipment from the check-in area to the aircraft. Any expenses that might arise for this concept will be on the passenger’s account.

Diving, fishing, inflatable rubber boat, life jacket/personal flotation device, etc.

In terms of carriage, they are defined as:

Scuba-diving equipment: one container/bag with one mask, two flippers, one regulator, buoyancy compensator, snorkel, weight belt and one empty cylinder for safety reasons (cylinders of compressed air may not be carried as they are dangerous articles).

Fishing equipment: in a maximum of 2 containers, one of which will contain two rods and the other boots and fishing equipment.

Inflatable rubber boat: transport bag for with one rubber boat (with no engine), one pair of oars.

Life jacket/personal flotation device: one inflatable jacket + one 60g cylinder of CO2.

Hand glider, paragliding equipment, parachuting equipment, etc.

In terms of carriage, they are defined as:

Hang glider: in one single container with a maximum length of 3.5 m.

Parachuting equipment: carried in one single container.

Paragliding equipment: carried in one single container. No paragliders with engines are allowed.

Musical instruments

Musical instruments that do not exceed the standard size of 30x120x38 cm may be carried with you in the cabin.

Carriage requirements:

As carry-on baggage:

Musical instruments whose dimensions do not exceed 30 x 120 x 38 cm (standard guitar measurements) may be carried in the cabin as the sole piece of permitted carry-on baggage besides the extra personal item.*

On an extra seat:

If you wish to use an extra seat to carry a musical instrument, please contact your Iberia Bookings Centre, where you shall be informed of the maximum measurements allowed for your journey and will be told whether or not its carriage is allowed.

As checked baggage:

The maximum measurements allowed for checked-in musical instruments, amplifiers and sound equipment are 190 x 75 x 65 cm with a maximum weight of 23 kg.

Electric wheelchairs & mobility aids

They will be accepted in the hold as part of your free baggage allowance as long as they comply with certain requirements.

For total security during the flight, they will only be accepted in the hold as long as they meet the following requirements:

For dry-cell battery-powered wheelchairs

They may be transported as checked baggage so long as the battery terminals are insulated to prevent possible short circuits and the powerpack is securely attached to the wheelchair and is disconnected.

For spillable battery-powered wheelchairs

They may be transported as checked baggage when they can be loaded, stored, secured and unloaded always in a vertical position and when the powerpack is disconnected and secured to the chair and the battery terminals are insulated to prevent against possible accidents. Otherwise, the powerpack should be separated from the chair and may be carried as checked baggage. The powerpack shall be properly packed as follows:

Packaging must be leak-tight, impervious to battery fluid and be protected against violent movements.

Powerpacks should be protected against short circuits and placed vertically in rounded packaging made from absorbent material.

Baggage allowance

Mechanically activated wheelchairs and similar mobility aids shall be considered as personal items or accessories of the passenger and will therefore not be subject to excess baggage charges.

Passengers with reduced mobility can take two additional pieces of mobility equipment (wheelchairs, walking frames, etc.) at no additional cost.

The Czech authorities inform passengers travelling with an electric wheelchair that they should hand them over at check-in, where they will be provided with another, manual wheelchair to get around the airport and the boarding area.

Fire arms

They will always go in the hold as they are dangerous goods, regardless of whether they are for hunting or sport.

Hunting and sport shooting equipment is considered to cover only:

Rifles and shotguns (long-arm weapons):

Two rifle or shotgun cases containing no more than two rifles or shotguns. No more than five kilogrammes of ammunition per passenger in one or more boxes. A suitcase or an additional suitcase for sport shooting materials (suit, gloves, footwear, mat, tripods, scopes, wheels, etc., and small tools or spare parts).

Pistols (handguns):

Two suitcases for pistols, containing no more than five pistols. No more than five kilogrammes of ammunition per passenger in one or more boxes. A suitcase or an additional suitcase for sport shooting materials (suit, gloves, footwear, mat, tripods, scopes, wheels, etc., and small tools or spare parts).

Conditions to be accepted on the flight

Firearms must be unloaded, disassembled (except rifles and shotguns that cannot be disassembled) and packed in suitable packaging. Ammunition can only be carried on the aircraft as checked baggage and should be duly labelled and identified with the carrier's knowledge, packed in boxes of wood, metal or pressboard to protect it from excessive movement. Weapons and ammunition may not be placed in the same package. Cold steel weapons and sharp objects should be suitably packed.

Procedure for transporting weapons to/from Brazil according to the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) (only available in Portuguese).

Checking-in

To be allowed to check in, the passenger must present authorisation issued by the “Airport Weapons Intervention Department” which has the appropriate forms. The passenger must hold the original and a copy must be included in his or her baggage or container with the firearms. The piece of baggage that contains the weapon shall be picked up by the passenger, at a Spanish destination, from the destination airport’s Weapons Intervention Department and, for destinations abroad, as regulated by that country's authorities. Check where these offices are located at each airport.

Baggage allowance*

It will always be treated as special baggage, outside of the permitted allowance, with a fixed charge of €75, payable exclusively at the airport, regardless of destination. When the trip originates in America, Nigeria or Israel, the charge will be USD 75.

Other charges, fees or taxes may apply in accordance with the laws in each country.


*Specific Iberia Regional Air Nostrum or Vueling (IB8XXX and IB5XXX) regulations will apply to these companies' flights.

Video and television equipment, musical instruments, industrial parts, etc.

In you would like to transport equipment that is bigger than our permitted size ( 158cm height+width+length) , please contact us ahead of time to confirm whether it can fly with you on the same airplane.

Musical instruments, audio/visual equipment, industrial parts, etc. that weigh between 32 and 45 kg* are treated as an additional piece of baggage with the following charges:

  • Domestic, European, North Africa, Middle East flights – €150/$160/£130

  • Flights to America/Asia/South Africa/Senegal/Equatorial Guinea – €300/$320/£255

If it weighs from 23 kg to 32 kg an excess weight charge will be applied.

*Except on flights with origin in Brussels, where the maximum permitted weight for check-in of any type of luggage is 32 kg.

Flights from London

Bags and other items exceeding 190 cm in length are not permitted.

Cash payments are not accepted at Heathrow airport.

Animals are not permitted in the cabin (PETC) on flights to London, or in the hold (AVIH) on flights to/from London. However, they are permitted to travel as cargo.
